In any writing on Vastushastra, one must ponder the fact that the people who discovered, studied and compiled the tenets of Vastushastra have eluded the pages of history. Almost several scattered works in Sanskrit literature on Vastushastra, a few treatise give comprehensive information defining Vastushastra as “anywhere where immortals and mortals live” and dealing all facets of god’s and humans’ dwellings, from choice of site to the iconography of temple walls; and also village layouts and construction techniques. Some outstanding examples of comprehensive text on Vastushastra are ‘Mayamatam’ and ‘Mansra’.
